Description
Admiral 8D15 Antique Radio Phonograph Circa 1949 - GREATLY REDUCED PRICE OFFER TO COLLECTORS, SEE BELOWOffered on a special sale is this antique Admiral 8D15 Radio Phonograph console. This once-beautiful unit is in stable condition, but in serious need of a collector to restore it to its former glory. And this "auction" is set-up in a way to allow me to accept offers from collectors willing to tackle this project and preserve this unit for generations to come - read the details below.
I am knowledgeable about this unit, as it belonged to my relatives. They purchased it in the early 1950's from an appliance store in Jacksonville, Florida. They were undecided on whether to purchase this, as they also wanted to own a television as soon as they became readily available at reasonable prices. The salesman may have told them a little fib, saying that Admiral was working on a "TV upgrade" that would fit into the lower right portion of the cabinet. This turned out to not be true, but the salesman got his sale.

Special Offer to Collectors - You Don't Have to Pay the Listed Price!
It is my strong desire to get this antique console unit into the hands of a collector who will clean it, repair it, refinish it and cherish it. And I've structured this eBay "auction" in a way to accomplish this goal.
The starting bid is set at 0, but this is intended only to discourage bidding from those who wouldn't appreciate this item for what it is; I don't expect to receive this much. Instead, I've set the "Make An Offer" reserve much lower, only . If you are a collector who'd like to tackle this project, take these steps:
Make an offer of what you're willing to pay for the unit, or more.
Send me a message by eBay's "ask seller a question" function, telling me of your restoration plans.
I will respond to all offers received just prior to the end of the auction. Selling decision will be based first on the buyer's intent to restore the item, and then all other things being equal, the cash being offered, reserving the right to accept or reject any offer(s).
Condition
Operationally, it is non-working. The power cord's insulation is deteriorated and the unit cannot be plugged-in until this cord is replaced. The last time I heard it operating was in the 1980's - they placed it in storage soon after that. But at that time, the radio worked perfectly, and the sound quality from the large speaker in the lower left of the cabinet was beautiful, producing much deeper bass tones than I would have expected. The phonograph was not working at that time, and I was told that it was due to a broken drive belt.
Cosmetically, it's obviously in need of a good clean-up, replacing the grille cloths, and refinishing of the wood. There's a small area at the left front base of the unit where the wood is cracked and separating, but nothing is missing and this can be repaired with wood glue. This well-built unit has great bones and is otherwise in excellent structural condition.
What's Included
The unit as described and pictured. The owner's manuals are included as shown, but these manuals are deteriorated and damaged as you would expect from 70-year-old paper.
Local Pickup, Nearby Delivery, "Meet You In The Middle"
