St. George lived in 284 - 305, during the reign of the Roman Emperor Diocletian. He was the son of rich and noble parents, followers of the Christian faith. When George was a child, his father was tortured for his confession of Christ.
He received an excellent education, and with the sturdy, beauty and courage of the young man, at 20 years he was one of the closest people to the emperor.
During the persecution of the Christians, he was arrested and became torches. George suffered all these tortures and did not deny Christ. After fruitless persuasion he was sentenced to death. On this night, his dream was the savior with a golden crown on his head, telling him to expect paradise.
