    Description

A blue beaded necklace that my mother purchased while visiting the Wounaan Indians in the La Chunga village along the Gamburu River in Panama in the 80's.  The last photo is one she took during her visit to show the straw huts that they live in.  The necklace includes nine pierced coins from the United States that are half-dimes dating between 1838 - 1873.  Some of the coins are too worn to see the dates or are pierced with a hole through the date.  Two coins are from France and are 20 cent coins dated 1850.  Two of the U.S. coins have a second piercing in them.  The blue beaded portion of the necklace is 13" long.  The string would allow for longer hanging.
